Welcoming Babies With Love
Your baby’s birth day is one of the biggest days of your life — and theirs! It’s an exciting and rewarding time, and at AdventHealth Port Charlotte, formerly ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte, we’re honored to share it with you.
At our AdventHealth Port Charlotte Baby Place, we’re dedicated to providing expectant mothers and newborns with personalized, compassionate care. Our expert obstetricians, labor and delivery specialists, nurses and other caring professionals deliver maternity care in a welcoming, comfortable environment.
Our care extends beyond delivery day, from prenatal and postpartum care to high-risk pregnancy care and advanced labor and delivery services.
We’re here to help you find the right OB/GYN or a location that’s convenient for you.
Maternity Care That Goes Beyond Baby’s Big Day
- Prenatal Care
-
Our expert obstetrics care begins in the earliest stages of your pregnancy, with prenatal checkups and services tailored to your specific needs. You'll learn about proper nutrition and work with your obstetrician to develop a birth plan, choose a pediatrician and get properly prepared.
- High-Risk Pregnancy Care
-
Our perinatologists (doctors who specialize in high-risk pregnancy care) are available to manage pregnancy-related conditions like gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, as well as provide specialized care for those with existing medical conditions.
- Labor and Delivery
-
When it’s time for the big day, our Baby Place labor and delivery rooms have everything we need to provide you with excellent care. New parents can experience this wonderful, lifetime milestone event with the privacy necessary to labor, deliver and recover, all while specialized physicians and nurses tend to every need.
- The Milk Depot
-
We’re home to Charlotte County's first Milk Depot, a controlled collection point where women can donate their breast milk for premature babies. Donations are then transferred to Mothers' Milk Bank of Florida, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, where they’re screened, processed and pasteurized.
Not all mothers can supply breast milk, and donor human milk is the next best nutritional option, especially for medically fragile infants. Among these vulnerable infants, there is a higher risk for complications, comorbidities and sometimes death when human milk is not available.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends using pasteurized donor human milk when milk from the baby’s mother is unavailable.
Mothers’ Milk Bank of Florida is the first of its kind in Florida. We’re honored to be a resource and depot to support Mothers’ Milk Bank of Florida and to meet the needs of Florida’s babies.
Local moms interested in donating their breast milk can start the screening process by calling the Mothers' Milk Bank of Florida at Call407-248-5050 or by visiting milkbankofflorida.org. Once approved, you can bring your frozen milk to our Baby Place's Milk Depot, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
- Playing it Safe: Kids and Cars
-
Safe Kids Southwest Florida and the Charlotte County Florida Health Department offer monthly child passenger safety classes during daytime and evening hours. This free class is open to all parents, grandparents and childcare providers.
If you are adding a little one to the family, putting in a new seat or switching from rear-facing to forward-facing, come learn about car seat safety and get your car seat inspected.
You are encouraged to schedule your class before your sixth month of pregnancy. For more information, call Call941-624-7273.

Well-Baby Nursery for Our Tiniest Patients
Our AdventHealth Port Charlotte well-baby nursery, located adjacent to our Baby Place, provides care for newborns born at 35-weeks gestation or later who are stable, but just in need of a little extra care after birth.
The nursery can also temporarily care for newborns who need a higher, more specialized level of care until they can be transferred to the appropriate facility.
Skin-to-Skin with Babies
Our nurses and OB/GYNs at AdventHealth Port Charlotte Baby Place encourage family members to visit our well-baby nursery and participate in caring for their baby. During your visits, neonatal nurses will help you learn how to care for your baby so you are comfortable caring for your newborn at home.
We understand the importance of soothing skin-to-skin contact between babies and their parents. Skin-to-skin contact promotes healing, comfort and bonding. Sometimes called “kangaroo care,” skin-to-skin contact is important for all babies.
Benefits of skin-to-skin with babies can include the following:
- Allowing babies to feel safe when they hear their mom’s familiar heartbeat
- Stabilizing temperature, blood sugar and breathing
- Promoting breastfeeding
Caring for Moms and Babies in Body, Mind and Spirit
QuoteAfter being hospitalized with a kidney infection in her third trimester, Danielle decided to change her birth plan to deliver with us.
Danielle says her OB/GYN and the nursing staff were attentive, kind and made for an overall great experience. She encourages moms-to-be to “look for a physician that you feel understands, supports and respects your birthing plan. If you’re not sure what birthing plan is right for you, find a physician that you feel comfortable voicing your thoughts and concerns with, one that listens to you.”

QuoteWhen her big day came, Sarah was ready. “This is my first child, so having a natural labor and birth was important to me so that I could be an active participant the entire time. [My doctor] was supportive from our first meeting through the delivery of my son at [AdventHealth] Baby Place. He coached me every step of the way.”

QuoteReturning to the same hospital where she and her husband were born three decades earlier, Charleen said the nurses and staff made her and her husband feel at ease.
“They coached us through labor, were at our side the entire delivery, and after she was born, made sure everything was going well and that we were adjusting comfortably to the baby and her needs.”
